The Study on the Expression of IFN-γ and IL-10 in Patients with Viral Myocarditis and their Interference with Chinese Drugs

To study the cytokine profiles of lymphocytes from peripheral blood of patients with myocarditis and cardiomyopathy,the concentrations of Th1/Th2 associated cytokines IFN γ and IL 10 were determined by ELISA,and the expressions of coxsackie B virus(CVB)genes were tested by RT PCR assay in comparison with those of the normal contact individuals Meanwhile,the effect of Kang Ke injections was also observed It was found that most of patients had a positive CBV RNA reactions in acute stage of illness with increased production of Th1 related cytokine IFN γ and normal or reduced production of Th2 related cytokine IL 10 Neverthless,in convalescent stage,most patients showed a negative CVB RNA reactions with increased production of IL 10 and normal or reduced response of IFN γ.In chronic stage (including those patients with dilated cardiomyopathy),both IFN γ and IL 10 were depressed These results suggest that the inflammatory reactions in myocarditis are mainly manifested through the Th1 cell mediated responses,and the Th2 cell type cytokines have an inhibitory effect on these responses The Kang Ke injections can enhance the Th2 cell activities,but can inhibit the Th1 cell activities
