Study on the Protection and Corrosion Resistance of Magnesium Alloys by Silane-epoxy Mg-Rich Coating

Combining the continuous requirements of the automotive industry for light weight and anti-corrosion performance,and also based on the lower specific gravity and better processing performance of magnesium alloy materials,this study investigated the silane-epoxy magnesium-rich coating system of magnesium alloy AZ31B.The system first used a silane hydrolysis pretreatment to form a silane film,and then a certain proportion of magnesium powder and a coupling agent were added to the epoxy resin as a primer,and finally the epoxy varnish was prepared by brushing.The microscopic morphology of the coating was observed,and the adhesion strength of the coating was evaluated to be 14.78 MPa.The coating have good corrosion resistance under salt water soaking and NSS conditions,combined with electrochemical polarization curves and XRD analysis of corrosion products briefly analyzed the protective mechanism of the coating and provided space and conditions for the wider application of magnesium alloys in automobiles.
