WEI Cun cheng (Research Center for Chinese Frontier Archaeology,Jilin University ,Changchun ,Jilin ,130012,China)
The people of Koguryo is one of the ancient minorities in northeast area of China. Koguryo established its state political power in 37 BC, yet it was still dominated by the prefecture of Xuantu(玄菟)or by the prefecture of Liaodong(辽东) of the Han Dynasty. The state political power of central plains and the south continued to confer titles on Koguryo regime after the four prefectures (乐浪、玄菟、临屯、真番) had been weakened ,and that turned into a kind of tradition and institution. The name of Koguryo was changed into Koryo afterwards. Strictly speaking , it was at the end of the 5th century that the name of Koguryo had been changed, but generally speaking ,it was in the 5th century.
