The Growth and Decline of Farming and Animal Husbandry Economy and the Ecological Transformation in the Areas of Gansu, Qinghai and Ningxia Region during the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China

During the period from the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, farming cultivators and nomadic tribes living in the mixed areas of farming and stockbreeding around Gansu, Qinghai and Ningxia contended for meadow and cultivable lands for subsistence. These constant disputes as well as some inappropriate economic activities, on the one hand, weakened the originally fragile ecological environment, which reduced the quality of natural living conditions and deteriorated the ecological unbalance, and on the other hand, caused a series of social contradictions and even armed disputes, which became the unstable social elements.
