Interdisciplinary Approaches and Cold War History Study

WANG Li-xin(Department of History,Peking University,Beijing,100871,China)
Dominated by Rankean notion of historiography based on archival studies and traditional historical narrative,Cold War history study in China has long lacked the methodological innovation and lagged behind the cutting edge of international scholarship. It is both necessary and urgent to introduce into it the interdisciplinary approaches and methodologies, such as international studies, cultural studies and gender theory, which could help Cold War historians find new themes, raise new questions, unearth new documents and give new interpretations. Moreover, interdisciplinary perspectives will enhance the character of Cold War studies as a field of humanities rather than social sciences and will intimately bring about the emergence of a new narrative of Cold War history.
