Canine Model of Saccular Aneurysms

A canine model of saccular aneurysm using a venous pouch surgical technique is described. 18 models (6 lateral, 6 bifurcation, 6 terminal aneurysms) were constructed and examinated in the second week after the procedure. In these investigations, the geometrical relationship between an aneurysm and its parent artery was found to be the principal factor that determined the intraaneurysmal flow pattern. Blood flow within experimental aneurysms can all be directly related to the occurrence, growth, thrombosis and rupture of saccular aneurysms. These models have been used to investigate the hemodynamics and interventional treatment of saccular aneurysms.
