Refractive Volume Rendering Method for Display of Iso-surfaces

Refractive effects in volume rendering can enhance the realism of volume graphics,but the quality of resultant images is highly sensitive to noises.Filtering can suppress noises,but it results in geometrical distortion and loss of structural details.This paper presents an iso-surface refractive volume rendering method is proposed for display of iso-surfaces.An improved curvature PM filter is used to smooth the volume dataset to suppress noises before the dataset is rendered.A threshold is used to eliminate multiple refractions in the close proximity of iso-surfaces when the dataset is rendered.Experiments show that misclassification rates of samplings are less than the ones with other methods,the quality of resultant images is enhanced.Meanwhile, the geometrical distortion and the loss of structural details are decreased.
