Numerical simulation of rime ice accretion

A tool is developed for rime ice accretion prediction in a modular fashion.The time-stepping approach is adopted in the simu-lation of ice accretion.The computation of collection efficiency is done in an Eulerian method.The solution for the governing equations of droplets and calculation of accreted ice mass are achieved within FLUNET through user defined functions(UDF),whereas meshes are updated in Gridgen.YICE2D called FLUENT and Gridgen in proper time so that the computational cycle is automated.Two rime-ice test cases are performed,and the computational results are compared to the validation results for LEWICE 2.0.Comparisons show that the methods are valid.
