Effects of chitosan on growth performance and im- mune functions in broilers

Hao Gang Xu Li
One hundred and twenty Arbor Acre(AA)broilers(1 d age)were randomly divided into five groups, with three replications per group. The control group(Group Ⅰ)was fed with corn-soybean meal basal diets, the trial groups(GroupⅡ,Ⅲ,Ⅳ and Ⅴ) were fed with basal diets added with 10,20,30 g/kg chitosan, and 5 mg/kg flavomycin, respectively. The experimental period was three weeks. The results showed that supplementation with 10 g/kg chitosan had no effect on growth performance of broilers, but supplementation with 20 g/kg and 30 g/kg chitosan decreased growth performance in 1 d to 21 d age.Supplementation with chitosan didn't increase the availability of nutrient, but it could improve the immunological function of broilers.
