Detection of propanoic acid and propionate in feed by capillary gas chromatography

A method based on capillary gas chromatography was developed to detect propanoic acid and propionate content in feed.Samples were acidified by hydrochloric acid,propionate was turned into propanoic acid.Then samples were extracted with the diethyl ether,separated on a capillary column(HP-FFAP,30 m×0.32 mm×0.25 μm)and deteted with a FID.The linear range of the determination was 5.0 ~ 500 mg/L and the linear correlation coefficient was 0.9993.The detection limit of this method was 0.77 mg/kg.The recoveries ranged from 87.2% to 93.4% with RSD of 1.7% ~ 3.2%.
