Effects of the feed composition on growth performance and nutrient digestibility of weaning pigs

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of different feed structures on growth performance and nutrient digestibility of weaning pigs. Four hundred 21 d weaning pigs were allotted to 5 groups with 4 replicates of 20 pigs for the starter phase,while 2 replicates at the same group for the later phase. For the starter phase,there were 5 diets,group 1 was the corn-soybean meal-high lactose-high fish meal diet,group 2 was the extruded corn-soybean meal-high lactose-high fish meal diet,group 3 was the corn-soybean meal-low fish meal-high lactose diet,group 4 was the extruded corn-soybean mealhigh lactose-low fish meal diet,group 5 was the extruded corn-soybean meal-low fish meal-high lactose,while for the later phase,group A was the extruded corn-soybean-fish meal-whey powder diet,group B was the cereal diet. Results showed that no significant differences in average daily weight gain,average feed intake and feed conversion ration were found among the groups at the starter phase(P 0.05). Compared with the group 1,other groups had lower diarrhea incidence(P 0.05). Both the starter and later phase diets had no significant effects on the growth performance and diarrhea incidence of 43 ~ 64 d pigs(P 0.05). At the starter phase,group 2,4 and 5 had higher apparent digestibility of organic matter than the group 1(P 0.05),while the later phase diets had no significant effects on the nutrient digestibility of 50 d pigs. Based on the data in this experiment,we conclude that pigs at 21 d weaned fed diets based on corn and soybean meal with low levels of lactose and fish meal had the similar performance to pigs fed more complex diets,and from 43 ~ 64 d,pigs got optimal performance when fed diets based on cereal and high protein.
