Synthesis of Triphenyl Phosphate with Phase Transfer Catalysis

Triphenyl phosphate was synthesized by reaction of phenol, sodium hydroxide and phosphorus oxychloride using phase transfer catalyst (PTC). Effects of PTC species, catalyst's mole fraction, material mole ratio, solvent and reaction temperature on the reaction were studied. The yield of triphenyl phosphate is 92% when tetrabutyl ammonium bromide is used as catalyst plus n(POCl3):n(C6H5OH):n(NaOH)=1∶3∶3.1 in solvent dichloromethane at 0~5 ℃. Under the same condition, a series of triaryl phosphates, i.e. tri-1-naphthyl phosphate, tri-2-naphthyl phosphate, tris (4-chlorophenyl) phosphate and tris (2,4-dichlorophenyl) phosphate, were synthesized. And the yields of these triaryl phosphates are 87.2%, 88.8%, 85.4%, 87.5%, respectively.
