A Study of the "Cement Body" of Cement Lung

Zhang Xuqin,et al
In this paper, the round coated bodies that had, not been reported in literature we-re found in the lung cement dust foci, whenexamining lungs of cement workers at necro- psy.Its average size is about 5×8μm. Theorange-yellow outer layer appears wasdetermined containing ferritin in histochem-ical technique. The core of body is blackand opaque. With the help of the energydispersive X-ray analysis and X-ray diffractionanalysis, the results showed that thechemical elements of the body core were thesame as the cement dusts. But thesebodies were different from asbestes bodiesand mica bodies in elements and form. Therefore, we called them "Cement Body".More cement bodies exist among all 15autoptic cases of cement lung. In addition, the bodies themselves were bigger, their for-mal property were clear and they were easyto be found. So, we think that "Cement Bo-dy" can be used as the index for exposureto cement dusts.
