Effect of long-term exposure to low concentration of chlorine on workers' disease spectrum

Objective To investigate the chronic effect of low-level exposure to chlorine on workers. Methods According to the standard of disease categories ICD-10,analyze the health examination forms of workers exposed to chlorine,which including 532 males 204 females. Results The results showed that the effect of chronic exposure to chlorine was mainly on digestive system,especially the liver,the prevalent rate of hepatic cyst was highest( 7. 9%) in workers with chlorine-exposure term over 20 years,the prevalence in male was higher that of female. The same trend could be seen in prevalent situation of hypertension as well. Conclusion The results suggested that long-term exposure to low level of chlorine may produce some chronic damage on digestive and circulatory system especially the liver.
