Determination of Caffeine in Breast Milk Samples by QuEChERS-GC/MS

To establish A new method for determination of nitrite in caffeine in breast milk sample by QuEChERS combined with GC/MS. Samples were extracted with acetonetrile, dehydrated with MgSO_4, and purified by PSA to precipitate protein or grease, then analyzed using GC/MS. The result showed that caffeine had a good linear relationship in the range of 1.0 ~ 200.0 mg/L with correlation coefficients(r) of 0.999 4. The limits of detection(LOD, S/N=3) and quantification(LOQ, S/N=10) of nitrite in breast milk samples were 1.25 ng/mL and 3.5 ng/mL, respectively. The average recoveries ranged between 70.2% ~ 84.7%, the relative standard deviations(RSDs) ranged between 1.89% ~ 3.01%. This method is simple, sensitive, and accurate for the determination of caffeine in breast milk samples.
