Comparative study on effect of salinities on growth and body composition of Oreochromis niloticus×O.aureus and Channa argus

Two experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of salinity on growth of fresh water fish.In experiment 1,tilapia Oreochromis niloticus×O.aureus with average weight of 230 g were cultured in different water with salinities of 0(control group),7.5,10.0,12.5.After 30 days feeding,the growth rate of the four groups were 23.73%,23.23%,25.42%,15.71%,and FCR were 2.79,2.71,2.58,4.17 respectively.The growth rate was improved by increased salinity up to 10 and was significantly decreased at salinity of 12.5(P0.05).The muscle crude protein content was highest at 7.5 salinity(P0.05)and there were no differences in muscle water,ash, fat,protein content among other groups.In experiment 2,snakehead fish Channa argus with average weight of 402 g were cultured in different water with salinities of 0(control group),5.0,7.5,10.0.After 30 days feeding,the growth rate of the four groups was 37.70%,33.95%,31.46%,6.30%,FCR was 4.03,4.20,4.37,6.28 respectively.The growth rate was decreased by the increased salinity and lowest at 10.0 salinity(P0.05).The muscle crude protein and fat contents were significantly decreased at 10 salinity.(P0.05).The results above showed that the growth performance of tilapia Oreochromis niloticus×O.aureus could be improved in brackish water(salinity≤10),but the growth rate of snakehead fish Channa argus could be decreased by increased salinity.
