Environmental Efficiency Measurement and Influence Mechanism Analysis of Ten Major Container Ports in China

The environmental costs are introduced into the analysis framework of ports' environmental efficiency. This paper estimates the environmental efficiency of China's 10 container ports for the 8-year period(2007 to 2014) using SBM model, the non-radial and non-oriented model in DEA efficiency models, then tests the various external environmental factors affecting on the efficiency that by using the random effect panel Tobit model. The results indicate the environmental efficiency of China's container ports in increasing year by year, but the overall efficiency level is not high. 10 ports present environmental inefficiency in different degrees, and the main reason is due to the low efficiency of environmental pure technology. Value of import and export and per capita GDP are positively correlated with the environmental efficiency of container ports, but the regional population has a significant negative impact on it.
