Hydroxy-ethyl Starch injection for plasma substitute using in plasma exchange

Plasma exehange(PE)using hydroxyethyl starch injection as the plasma substitute had been investigated in healthy rats. Unlike the plasma globulin and fibrinogen, plasma albumin recovered promptly after PE. No persistent disturbance of the acidbaseequilibrium, electrolytes and blood coagulation had been found according to the determinations. No general or local bleeding had been found. It is suggested that when there is shortage of fresh freezing plasma during PE the hydroxy-ethyl starch injection is a promising agent for plasma substitute of PE if the subject is without obvious liver damage and its infusion volume adequately controlled.
