EFFECT OF GOSSYPOL ACETATE ON THE TESTICULAR HCG REACTIVITY AND IT'S RECEPTOR IN THE RATS

20 male rats were used in this experi-ment.The rats were fed with gossypol acetate at the dose of 30 mg/kg/day,six times per week orally for 4 weeks.Plasma testosterone was determined by RIA.The number of tes-ticular LH/HCG receptor and receptor affini-ty were determined by RRBA.Results showed that plasma testosterone levels were decreased significantly after 2,3 and 4 weeks of admi-nistration of gossypol.The interstitial cells became atrophy morphologically.The forma-tion of testosterone of rats treated with gossy-pol in response to HCG was reduced signi-ficantly after HCG injection for 120 min.The number of testicular LH/HCG receptor was not altered significantly but its affinity was obviously reduced.These results suggest that gossypol inhibits the production of testosterone and HCG reactivity of testis through interfe-ring the function of testicular HCG receptors.
