ULTRASTRUCTURAL CHARECTERISTICS OF POLLEN WALL ON MALE STERILE LINE K-77 (2)A IN WHEAT

YAO Ya Qin YANG Tian Zhang (Northwestern Agricultural University, Yang Ling, Shanxi 712100)
This paper deals with the observation of pollen wall from male sterile line, K-77(2)A, and its maintained 77 (2) B, in wheat by means of electronic microscope as well as the relationships between the ultrastructural charecteristics of their intines and the fertilities of their pollens. The results showed that the intine of K-77(2) A was almost as twice thick as that of its B line. There were radial, non-continuous and dense tular structures in the B line but no same structures in the A line and instead of many small bubbles in it. At later stage, the Z-layer cells always broke away from the intine in the abortion pollen. It supposed that the destroy of intine structure resulted in the obstruction of nutrition transportation and enzyme synthesis for pollen germination so that the pollen development was inhibited.
