THE DISCOVERY AND RESEARCH OF THE YIYANGITE IN THE HANJIANG RIVER

Cao Enkui (The Shaanxi Laboratory Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources)
The Yiyangite, discovered in the Hanjiang river,Shaanxi Province in 1989,occurred in a placer gold deposit within the upper reaches of the Hanjian river. The mineral assumes the branching, schistose and secondary rim structures, yellow colour and metallic luster.Under a reflecting micr- oscope,it is yellow-white colour, double reflection, dim reflection pleoch- roism and weak heterogeneity. The electro-probe analysis reveals that the Yiyangite is mainly composed of Au(72.56%—75.19%,average 74.07%), Hg(22.82%—25.69%,average 24.44%)and a little Ag(0.00—1.25%, average 0.66%).According to the calculation of its average component, the chemical formula of the Yiyangite is(Au 2.9863 Ag 0.0464)3.0327 Hg 0.6972,and its simplified formula is Au_3 Hg.
