SEM observation of sensillum on antenna and proboscis in three common hoverflies visiting flower

In order to study the type,quantity and distribution of the sensillum on head of hoverfly,the paper uses the method of scanning electron microscope(SEM) to observe the sensillum on antenna and proboscis in three common flower-visiting hoverflies: Eupeodes corollae(Fabricius),Helophilus virgatus(Coquilletti) and Eristalis tenax(Linnaeus) from Southern Shaanxi Province. The results in 8 kinds of sensillum derived from these 3 species show that 6 types distribute on the antenna: sensilla trichodea(I,Ⅱ,Ⅲ),sensilla basiconica,sensilla coeloclnica and microtriche and that 3 distribute on the surface of apical proboscis: sensilla chaetica(I,Ⅱ) and microtriche. An afterwards comparative study of the morphology of sensillum shows that there is some differences among sensilla trichodea(I,Ⅱ),sensilla coeloclnica and sensilla chaetica(I,Ⅱ) in different species while little differences can be found in the 3 species of sensilla trichodea Ⅲ,sensilla basiconica and microtrichia. The results provide certain references for the Syrphidae identification.
