3-D velocity field smoothing and the application effect

3-D velocity field smoothing is the most common and important meth- od for 3-D velocity field processing.This method improves the accura- cy of 3-D velocity field.The circular ring smoothing method recommend- ed here includes the following steps: Draw some concentric circles,whose centers are at the smoothing point,thus deviding the velocity grid into some circular rings. Estimate velocity values in each circular ring by using least-square method. Acquire the final smoothed velocity by summing these estimated ve- locity values and the original velocity at the smoothing point according to different weighting functions. The feasibility of this method is discussed here.It is shown that 3 -D velocity field smoothing plays marked role in improving 3-D seismic data processing.
