In this paper, linear wave theory and wave superposition method are used to study dynamic behavior of oil or gas production risers on the offshore platform. The Morison equation is utilized to calculate the wave forces on the structure. Drag forces are linearized. Both regular and random waves are included. The equations of motion are solved in the time domain with the normal mode superposition approach. This paper analyzed both dynamical responses of the risers resulting from wave force alone and wave force and platform displacement loads together. Numerical results are obtained and compared. The results show that analytical methods in this paper are available. The computer program proposed offers the convenience for the strength designing of the production risers.
