ULTRASONIC ATTENUATION OF ROCKS AND SPECTRUM VARIATION

Ultrasonic attenuation of rocks is measured with ultrasonic spectral analysis method. The correlativity of ultrasonic attenuation and the frequency of acoustic wave has been obtained in this paper. The attenuation coefficient of homogeneous rock varies directly with the frequency. It shows that the ultrasonic attenuation can be caused by the internal friction of the rocks and Rayleigh wave scattering in the case of low frequency.
