Objective To evaluate the phacoemulsification for complicated cataracta after glaucoma surgery from operation indications, opportunities, operation methods. Methods From January 2002 to February 2004, 42 cases with the phacoemulsification for cataracta after glaucoma surgery were retrospective studied, including 8 cases with prophylactic peripheral iridectomy and 36 cases with filtering surgery. 39 cases whose ocular tensions were operated though a clear corneal incision or a scleral tunnel incision. In these 39 operations, we attended to avoid the primary filtering area. Other 3 cases whose ocular tensions had to be controlled in normal range by systemic administration were run combined phacoemulsifecation and trabeculectomy. All patients followed up half a year. Results The visual acuity of all eyes were improved after surgery. Among those, the acuity of 33 cases increased to≥0.5. By some visual electrophysiologic study, the visual function damage of all cases who had received surgery had significant difference compared to those who hadn't received surgery. Conclusion The phacoemulsifecation is an effective method for complicated cataract after glaucoma surgery.
