Donling District is situated in the suburb of Shenyang City. In the past, economic efficiency was low in crop production, and much of the produce was not merchandized in this area, due to irrational crop production structure. During the three years between 1983 and 1985, a survey of natural resources was conducteddin the region, followed by a thoughtful planning of crop production. And in 1986, based on the information and clata obtai- ned, a mathematical model was constructed, using linear programming method, to regulate crop production structure, and a new plan for crop prodiction was formulated. Under the plan, yearly crop output in the whole district would amount in value to 113, 099, 000 yuan--an increase of 20, 049, 000 yuan over the average value for the past three years (1983--1985). The total yield of cereals and legumes would reach 240, 000, 000 kgs, and that of vegetables, 315, 000, 000 kgs., which are able to meet the needs of urban supplies and the consumption by the producers and their families.
