Design and Experiment of a Monitoring System for Rice Direct Seeding Based on ZigBee Technology

Aimed at sol ving the prolems of miss and blockage in rice direct seeding, we designed an additional wireless monitoring system which was based on ZigBee technology for rice direct seeding machine. The system builds data transmission network with CC2530 chip as the core of monitoring and information processing, in which the photoelectric sensor is used as the monitoring node to build the ZigBee wireless sensor network. After determining the seeding situation by comparing the monitoring node time with the system setup time, the routing node will upload the date. When omitted or blocked, the buzzer will alarm and the screen will display the number of fault detection point, achieving multi-point and real-time monitoring of sowing quality.We designed and made the seed metering experiment simulator, which was powered by stepper motor, and did experiments to simulate the situation of miss and blockage to detect the system sensitivity. According to the experimental results, the alarming time and releasing time of blockage were 0.366 s and 0.249 s on average, the alarming time of misswas 0.22 s on average. To test the reliability of this system, we conducted the actual working environment experiments with rice precision direct seeding machine. According to the result, the rate of effective monitoring and miss alarming were 98.08% and 83.71% on average. The system integrates agricultural machinery and agronomy, with good sensitivity, high monitoring reliability, good performance and low cost, which will help its users to know the working condition of each seed metering device on any time.
