Effect of Endurance Exercise and Hypoxic Exposure on IGF-1 mRNA and Protein Level of Skeletal Muscle in Rats

IGF-1 may regulate protein synthesis of skeletal muscle.The effect of endurance and hypoxic exposure on IGF-1 mRNA and protein expression in skeletal muscle and its mechanism was studied in this paper.SD rats were divided into following groups:normoxic control group,normoxic exercise group,hypoxic exposure group,HiLo group.Normoxic exercise group were carried out treadmill running for 4 weeks.Hypoxic exposure group were treated with 13.6% concentrations of oxygen for 12 h/day under normobaric conditions in hypoxic chamber.HiLo group were exposed to hypoxia after 1 hour following exercise.The results were showed that gastrocnemius IGF-1 mRNA level unchanged and protein level decrease significantly after 4-week HiLo.This data suggests that HiLo affected IGF-1 level in skeletal muscle mainly by the way of hypoxic exposure,and then affected mass and function of skeletal muscle.
