Objective To observe the effect of pumpkin extracts(PKE) on tumor-bearing mice. Methods S_ 180 -bearing mice were used as animal model. The mice were administrated pumpkin extracts orally. The effects of PKE on tumor weight, immune function and antioxidative enzyme were examined. Results PKE markedly reduced tumor weight and promoted splenic lymphocyte proliferation, natural killer cell (NK) activity. PKE enhanced phagocytosis of macrophages in S_ 180 -bearing mice. PKE increased the number of CD4 + ,CD8 + and the CD4 +/CD8 + ratio, enhanced SOD , GSH-Px activities and reduced MDA level significantly(P0.05). Conclusion Pumpkin extracts might inhibit the growth of S_ 180 tumor. The antitumor effect may be related to its immune effect and antioxidative effect and the reduction of lipid peroxidation.
