Investigation of Indoor Air Quality in Newly Decorated House

Objective To understand the effects of house decoration on indoor air quality.Methods Formaldehyde,total volatile organic compounds(TVOC)and Radon were monitored in indoor air of 28 newly decorated residential buildings in our military area.Results The average room concentration of formaldehyde exceeded the national standards.The concentration of formaldehyde in the kitchen,host bedroom,host toilet,and guest-bedroom was significantly higher than those of toilet and living room,and the rate of exceeded standards in host toilet,study room,and host bedroom was significantly higher than that of living room.The average room concentrations of TVOC exceeded the national standards except the toilet.The concentration of TVOC in the kitchen and host bedroom was significantly higher than that of toilet and the exceeded standards rates of study room and guest bedroom were significantly higher than that of the toilet.The average room concentration of Radon was within the permitted range of national standards.Conclusion Formaldehyde and total volatile organic compounds are the major materials of indoor air pollution in newly decorated residential buildings.
