Study on antidepressant effect of phlorotannins with different molecular weight extracted from Sargassum fusiforme

Objective To study the antidepressant effect of phlorotannins with different molecular weight from Sargassum fusiforme in mice. Methods Phlorotannins with different molecular weight were obtained by extraction and ultrafiltration. To investigate the antidepressant activity of phlorotannins with different molecular weight by the forced swimming test and the tail suspension test,with behavioral despair mice in the immobility time as an indicator in this paper. Results Phlorotannins with different molecular weight could significantly reduce the immobility time of mice except molecular weight greater than 30000 during the forced swimming test and the tail suspension test,compared with that of the control group. Conclusion Phlorotannins with different molecular weight from Sargassum fusiforme possessed the antidepressant effects.
