Xisheng's Influence on the Literature in the Eastern Jin Dynasty and the Southern Dynasty

Xisheng,aprofessional official department in the Jin dynasty responsible for drafting imperial edicts,developed further in the Southern dynasty to bear the characteristics of a triple unity as a ministerial-level agency of the royal court,the central academy,and the department nearby the monarch ready to draft imperial edicts.Under the influences of social morals andthe academic atmosphere of the then scholar-officials,it had developed into a literary institution,which setliterary talents as its top concern in recruitment,and advocated elegance in writing,manifesting the aesthetic preference of the refreshing gorgeous literature in the Southern dynasty.As a result,the department had the institutional function of producing literary works.
