The Changes of Chinese-American Images in Chinese-American Literature History

CHEN Yong;The School of Foreign Languages,Jinling Institute of Technology;
In the 100-odd years'history of Chinese-American literature,the Chinese images in its literary works have undergone a series of changes,from the first standardized,stereotyped images of"the others",to the naturalized images of having approved of Americanization,and to the current self-constructed multicultural images of ChineseAmericans,demonstrating the great efforts the American writers of Chinese origin have made in winning the right to free speech and adequate social status for American Chinese.Meanwhile,the changes reflect the spiritual path of American Chinese in the reconstruction of their own identity in their exploration for their culture while communicating,clashing and conflicting with the Western Culture.Meanwhile,these changes also represent their beautiful longings and wishes for the eventual integration between the American Culture and the Chinese Culture.
