An Analysis of the French Cultural Policy Model:With the Cultural Policies under Francois Mitterrand's Presidency as an Example

WANG Jiying;The College of Foreign Languages,Ocean University of China;
In France,the government involved itself in the field of culture a long time ago.Its cultural policy can be traced back to the tradition of the royal house to grant sanctuary in the sixteenth century.After several centuries of evolution and development,France has formed its own unique cultural policy model,whose basic concept is that the state is the chief policy director and that culture is a state affair.During the presidency of Francois Mitterrand,the French government's intervention in culture reached its"peak",for the state's dominant position in the cultural field was so comprehensively strengthened that even the head of state himself would directly interfere in cultural affairs.
