The Locomotives Energy Consumption for Traction before and after Electrification Reconstruction of the Guangzhou-Meizhou-Shantou Railway

Based on the trains' schedules of Guangzhou-Meizhou-Shantou railway before and after its electrification reconstruction,we quantitively analyzed the locomotives energy consumption for traction.Before the electrification reconstruction, 17.4 kiloton diesel oil would be consumed by the diesel locomotives for 6.97×10~9 ton-km tractions in each year.Correspondingly,the energy consumption intensity was 36.38 kg standard coal equivalent per ten-thousand ton-km.After the electrification reconstruction,0.105 billion(kW·h) power would be consumed by the electric locomotives for 9.29×10~9 ton-km tractions in each year.Correspondingly,the energy consumption intensity was 13.89 kg standard coal equivalent per ten-thousand ton-km.The electrification reconstruction could result in a great reduction of energy consumption for tractions,which meant that 12.5 thousand ton standard coal equivalent would be saved annually.
