Gain Characteristics of Erbium-ytterbium Co-doped Fiber Amplifier

The signal gain of erbium/ytterbium co-doped fiber amplifiers(EY-DCFA)as functions of pump configuration,input pump power,input signal power,fiber length,as well as the changes of concentration for rare-earth in the fiber were described by using the software of Matlab and the algorithm of Rung-Kutta.Erbium-ytterbium co-doped fiber amplifier gain of the signal light grows with the increasing of incident pump power and decreases with the growing of injected signal power.There is an optimum value of laser fiber length within the amplifier.When injected into a small value signal and a large value signal,the erbium ion concentration and the best doped ytterbium ion concentration ratio were about 1∶4 and 1∶8 respectively.These have guiding significance for the optimization design of EY-DCFA.
