Lung cancer has the highest mortality rate among all cancers, and the increasing number of elderly lung cancer reflects the increasing population aging in the world. Therefore, the standard treatment plan and strategy for elderly patients with lung cancer need to be established. However, the efficacy of chemotherapy in elderly patients with non-small cell lung cancer is controversial because elderly patients are often excluded from clinical trials. Some clinical trials found that the treatment of third generation anticancer drugs alone was better than the best supportive treatment. This paper reviews the current clinical therapy and future development of elderly patients with lung cancer.
