A new method of measuring auditory temporal resolution
Temporal resolution refers to the ability of the auditory system to catch rapid change of sounds,we try to find a measure to detect temporal resolution of the hearing loss. With the 'one-up, three-down' paradigm,we measured gap detection thresholds in 12 subjects, using a new method examining sub-threshold gap summation. The new method showed better sensitivity to temporal processing than the traditional gap detection method. Furthermore, the correlation between the duration of gaps and the noise provides a way to study the mechanism underlying temporal resolution. Both the new and traditional methods were used to measure the temporal-processing ability in a bilateral cochlear implant listener and a bilateral hearing aid listener.
