Objective To investigate the influence of cochlear implant in post lingual adult deaf on the speech prosody . Methods 9 subjects with cochlear implant and 9 normal control were tested . The study was made on the basis of reading a short passage of text with emotional contents, which allows of better evaluation of prosody. The auditory judges were 4 pathological linguists. The evaluation standards were based on 0-3 degree : 0 - normal prosody and 3 -severe perturbation. The linguists evaluated the following parametres: 8 the prosody, pitch, loundness, melody, rhythm and flow. "SESAME-PROSODIE" software were used, which allows us to obtain the values of different parametres: the coefficient of variation frequence, the averaged intensity, the number of breaks, the duration of breaks, syllable accent and the flow. Results The global perceptive evaluation showed that the patients had prosody perturbing before implanting and they were judged as pathological. Furthermore, the results showed that every parametre of prosody was modified after cochlear implant for the majority of the subjects, these changes went all the way to the direction of a normalization. The objetive evaluation showed that the dynamics frequency, the intensity and the flow increased and the duration of syllables, breaks and the number of breaks decreased. Conclusion The adults deaf have dysprosody and cochlear implanting can improve their quality of prosody.
