Mechanical analysis of deep water well-testing strings

Deep water well testing is critical for timely detection and accurate evaluation of deep water reservoirs.The success rate of deep water well testing is evaluated by the results from mechanical analysis of the testing string,which can be used to evaluate its security under various sea conditions.Therefore a method is proposed to adopt response amplitude operator(RAO) to calculate the move and heave motions of the drilling vessel due to the time response.The heave load after being compensated by the hook compensation system is used as the force boundary condition of the top of the testing string,and the horizontal displacement is used as the displacement boundary conditions of the top of the testing string,and the mechanical analysis is conducted by use of the finite element analysis method.The following conclusions are achieved: a.under the influence of waves,a drilling vessel heaves within 3 m,while the surge displacement is large;b.with the increase of wave height,the variation range of the displacement and the stress of the testing string both increase,while the average stress has slight variation;c.the test string will be safe and reliable when the wave height remains less than 10 m.
