Well control problems and countermeasures after the failure of annulus pressure responsive(APR) tools

Annulus pressure responsive(APR) tools are widely used for deep well completion but their failures occur so frequently,which brings about a high risk in well control due to their adverse effect on the operation of cased-hole test,fracturing,etc.In view of this,this paper first analyzes the problems encountered in well control after the failure of APR tools.Such problems are listed: no circulation passage for fracturing treatment,a sharp rise of annulus pressure resulting from the density differential of fracturing fluids between inside and outside oil tubings,reluctant swabbing due to incomplete retract of packers in running strings,neither circulating nor degassing to be done for the flow fluids under the outlet of the circulation passage.Accordingly,for the purpose of mitigating the well control risk,it is suggested that the perforator method be adopted to make a circulation passage,and some corresponding countermeasures be made to control the above problems.Finally,some proposals are presented: the manufacturing quality of APR tools to be guaranteed,bore holes to be cleaned,the perforator method to be used instead of the back-off method.Field application proves that it is feasible and reliable to make corresponding risk control countermeasures and to make circulation passage by use of the perforator method to deal with such well control problems.
