Effects of sloshing on the performance of FLNG calandria liquid distributors

With offshore oil and gas development,packed columns are widely used in offshore floating liquefied natural gas equipments(FLNG) for natural gas pretreatment.Liquid distributor is the key component of packed columns,so its design quality has direct effect on the packing performance and efficiency of the whole packed column.Calandria liquid distributor is driven by liquid pressure,so it can better suit for offshore sloshing.For the analysis of offshore sloshing effect on liquid distribution performance,a six-DOF(degree of freedom) sloshing platform which can generate six kinds of single-freedom-degree sloshing(e.g.rolling,pitching,yawing,swaying,surging and heaving) was used to perform experimental studies on calandria liquid distributors in the working conditions of static,different sloshing forms and different sloshing amplitudes.Besides,the flow rates of each liquid outlet were measured under different operating conditions,and the effects of different sloshing forms and amplitudes on the performance of liquid distributors were investigated.It is shown that among six single sloshing forms,rolling and pitching have more effects on the flow rate at the outlets of calandria liquid distributors,and the others have less effects on the distribution performance.The overall uneveness(M_o) rises by 35%and 15%respectively corresponding to rolling 5° and pitching 5°.With the increasing of sloshing amplitude,the distribution performance of calandria liquid distributors gets worse.The M_o of rolling 8° is 30%higher than that of rolling 5°.The M_o of pitching 8° is about 20%higher than that of pitching 5°.The M_o is less influenced by the shaking movement of stems.These research results provide technical support for the application and optimization of calandria liquid distributors on the sea.
