Influence of Initial Water Content on Slight Saline Water Infiltration

Duo to shortage of fresh water, the utilization of slight saline water is a major method for solving the problem of water shortage for farmland irrigation. Some salt ion in the slight saline water will affect soil infiltration, when the slight saline water is used to irrigate the farmland. In the paper infiltration tests with different initial water content for slight saline water were conducted, and the experimental results indicate that the cumulative infiltration increases as the initial water content increases at lower initial water content. The parameters, ks and hd in Green-Ampt equation are also influenced by the initial water content, and ks increases and hd decreases as the initial water content, when the Green-Ampt equation was used to process the experimental data. The experimental results of saturated conductivity with the fixed water head method also show that ks increases as the initial water content. These results illustrate that the slight saline water seriously affect soil infiltration capacity at lower initial water content when slight saline water is used to irrigate farmland.
