Research on Corrosion Mechanism of Casing Steel in Saturated Brine

Saturated brine is a major composition of completing liquid for deep exploration well and has serious causticity on casing. Discussed is corrosive mechanism of P110 casing steel in saturated brine by piece-corrosion-test. Test pieces as the same at oil field are adopted in the test. Analyzed are corrosion rate and form of P110 casing steel in the corrosive liquid in two temp conditions. Results show that, at normal temperature, the casing steel in saturated brine has a slightly corrosion. However, with temperature rise, the saturated brine corrodes the casing steel rapidly in pit corrosion shape mainly. This results from the chemical composition of the casing steel.
