H_α Post-Flare Loops on May 16,1981

The Hα post-flare loop system on May 16, 1981 has been investigated by assuming that the loops were elliptical. The major conclusions are as follows:1. Hα bright loops which were seen on solar disk during the decay phase of the flare occured at inner edges of ribbons separated rapidly. We propose that the Hα bright loops were formed as a result of fast cooling of the soft X-ray loops.2. The heights of four Hα loops are almost the same. The inclination of the AA' loop's plane is approximately 120°, BB', CC' and DD' loops are nearly perpenticular to the solar surface.3. The preflare actived filament located near the sheared loop AA'. We suggest that the sheared magnetic field structures not only play an important role in FBS. but also in flare trigger.4. The direction of two ribbons rotated about 40°-50° during the flare progress. It implied that low-lying magnetic field lines which were close to the magnetic neutral lines were not in parallel with the high-lying magnetic field lines. This may have relation to flare build-up.
