Effects of Ultrasonic Cavitation on Morphology Evolution of Second Phase in Al-5Ti-1B Master Alloy

Effects of ultrasonic cavitation on morphology evolution of second phase in Al-5Ti-1B master alloy were investigated.The results show that the morphology of the second phase in the prepared master alloy is improved significantly under ultrasonic cavitation.With the increase of ultrasound duration,the morphology of TiAl_3phase is changed from block to coarse acicular or plate-like,and the agglomeration of TiB_2in the grain boundary ofα-Al is distributed more uniformly with a small amount of attached TiAl_3.With treating for 120sof ultrasonic vibration,the average size and average area of TiAl_3and TiB_2are 19.3μm and 14.5μm~2,respectively,with more uniform distribution.
