A series of experiments were carried out to measure the temperature and pressure histories in cavity of Al-7 Si-Mg direct squeeze castings with different applied solidification pressures of 0.1,50,75,and 100 MPa.The evolution of the measured temperatures and pressures was discussed comparatively. The effect of pressure change on formation of shrinkage defects was analyzed.Further more, the friction force between the castings and dies during solidification process was calculated. It is shown that the applied squeeze pressure has significant influence on the frictional force at die and casting interfaces, which affects the pressure evolution and transmission.
