Numerical Simulation and Optimization of Technological Parameters for Horizontal Continuous Casting Metallic Glasses Slab

A comprehensive temperature field finite element model was established for horizontal continuous casting(HCC)process of the metallic glasses of Zr_(48)Cu_(36)Al_8Ag_8to analyze the impacts of technological parameters during the process,based on the self-developed HCC slab blank caster.The results reveal that both design of the HCC and cooling rate achieved by the developed apparatus can well meet the critical conditions for formation of metallic glasses of Zr_(48)Cu_(36)Al_8Ag_8.The results reveal influence of technological parameters to instantaneous cooling rate and solidification front position,that is,casting speedcasting temperaturecasting start position to solidification front and casting speedcasting start positioncasting temperature to balance state of solidification front and slab length at which instantaneous cooling rate reach the critical value.Accordingly,the optimal process parameters are presented as follows:casting temperature and casting speed of 1 080℃and 4 mm/s,respectively,and the casting start position is suggested 14mm away from the entrance of crystallizer.
