Material Problems in Optical Information Engineering

In this paper the material problems in opticat information engineering have beenreviewed.The emphasis has been put on the optical materials used in optical communi-cation,optical storage and optical computing,For long distance communication fluorideglass fiber has been suggested,preparation and properties of different kinds of infraredoptical fibers have also been described and compared.For optical data storage laser disktechnique has been,recommended.Four types of laser disk media,such as ablation,structure transition,Phase transition and magneto-optical,have been discussed in detail.For optical computing the materials used in optical spatial modulators,optical bistabledevices and integrated optical components have also been introduced.
